Official OGC Brochure for MoV

What is Value?

“The benefits delivered in proportion to the resources put into acquiring them”  MoV suggests processes for managing perceptions of value in an organisation so that an appropriate balance can be found.

When should MoV be used?

MoV has broad application or may be limited to a single project.  It may be applied in part of an organisation or across the range of investment management and operating practices throughout an organisation.

Any type of organisation will benefit from applying MoV principles and techniques.  They are not difficult or complex but they do force the hard questions to be asked.

Who is MoV directed at?

MoV is directed at any level of management responsible for making decisions about investment priorities.

How does MoV help?

MoV offers:

  • Increased stakeholder commitment
  • More effective use of resources
  • Better control over delivery
  • A portfolio of projects which is more aligned with organisational goals
  • Greater responses to a changing environment
  • Improvements to ROI

Doesn’t the use of a project management method cover this?

Almost all organisations have experience of projects and programmes that do not deliver expected benefits because of one or more of the following reasons:

  • Business case was not sufficiently robust
  • Poor understanding of the required outcome
  • Poor planning, leading to inefficient use of resources
  • Poor performance when delivered, so that the desired benefits are not achieved.

A more detached assessment of the problem and proposed solution as well as the ongoing consideration of how value for money will be achieved has been proven to be effective.

Where can I get more information?

The official MoV website contains further information and you will also find information on MoV and other Best Practice products at the official APMG website.
