About ITIL

ITIL (the IT Infrastructure Library) is the most widely accepted and best practice approach to IT Service Management used by organisations internationally. ITIL was developed in recognition of the large increase in organisations’ dependency on IT systems.

The ITIL philosophy has grown around the professional qualification scheme and guidance contained within a series of ITIL books which give guidance on the provision of quality IT services and the accommodation and environmental facilities needed to support IT.

The syllabus for ITIL V3 Foundation was first launched in June 2007 and has been updated since then, with the current version being released in May 2009.

The accreditation and certification for ITIL is managed by the APM Group, based in the UK.
